Description:Latin Diagnosis - Herba annua cauhs simplex vel pauciramosus ad 5 dm altus, minute 4-angulatus; folks appositis, petiolo brevi ad 3 mm longo; laminis glabris subcoriaceis, vulgo 4-5 cm longis, ovatis, 2-3 cm latis, obtusis vel acutiuscuhs, leviter 3-5-plinervatis; dichasns laxis, axillaribus vel terminalibus, vulgo asymmetricis; pedicellis 10-30 mm longis; calycibus ca 5 mm longis, tubo 1 mm longo, lobis late oblongis, ca 4 mm longis, minute fimbri-scarioso-marginatis; corolla ca 20 mm longa, tubo brevi, limbo ampliato, lobis oblongis ca 10 mm longis; antheris ca 2 mm longis, basifixis, sagittato-lanceolatis, appendicibus basibus ca 0.6 mm longis; granis pollinis polyadibus, ca 180 µm diam, spinis distalibus ca 10 µm longis; ovario conico, 2-loculari, placentatione parietali, ovulis pluribus; stylo 8-10 mm longo deciduo; stigmatibus bilamellatis, intus ciliatis, anguste oblanceolatis, ca 2.5 mm longis; capsula conica 10-12 mm longa, bivalvata; seminibus prismaticis 0.3-0.4 mm longis.

Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Known only from Cerro Paru. VENEZUELA. Territorio Amazonas, Cerro Paru, Río Ventuari: 2 Feb 1951, Cowan & Wurdack 31160 (holotype NY, isotypes VEN, US); flowers purplish-blue, occasional, sabanita, west rim at 2000 m alt, 31 Jan 1951, Cowan & Wurdack 31062 (NY, US, VEN).

Discussion:Type. Flowers purple-blue, occasional in cumbre sabanka, 2000 m alt, Cerro Paru, Serrania Paru, Territorio Amazonas, Venezuela, 2 Feb 1951, R. S. Cowan & J. J. Wurdack 31160 (holotype NY). Irlbachia paruana is most closely to be associated with I. tatei of Cerro Duida, from which it differs chiefly in its larger leaves, longer capsules, and larger, more ampliate corollas.
