    Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. Apparently confined to the southern portion of Cerro de la Neblina along the Brazilian-Venezuelan frontier. Cerro de la Neblina: 3 Dec 1965, Maguire, Pires & Maguire 60507 (paratypes NY, VEN, US, MG, S, K, F); 16-17 Oct 1970, Steyermark 103937 (holotype NY, isotypes VEN, MG, S, K, F, US).

    lb. Tapeinostemon longiflorum Maguire & Steyermark var australe Maguire & Steyermark, var nov Type. Branching bush 1.5 m tall, leaves subcoriaceous, reticulately coarsely veined above, corolla nodding, 8-10 mm long, Bonnetia-Clusia forest at 1900 m alt, Cerro de la Neblina, Venezuelan-Brazilian frontier, 16-17 Oct 1970, Julian A. Steyermark 103937 (holotype NY, isotype VEN). Paratype. Flowers white, on east trail along escarpment, 8000 ft alt, Cerro de la Neblina, Venezuelan-BrazUian frontier, 3 Dec 1965, Maguire, Pires & Maguire 60507.
