    4. Curtia Chamisso et Schlechtendal, Linnaea I: 209. t4,fig 2. 1826. Schuebleria Martius, Nov. Gen. 2: 113. 1827. Thurnhausera Pohl ex G. Don, Gen. Syst. 4: 201. 1837. Apophragma Grisebach, Gen. & Sp. Gent. 163. 1839. Type. Curtia gentianoides Cham. & Schlecht. nom illeg. Sabbatia verticillaris Spreng. Syst. Veg. 1: 580. 1825 =Curtia verticillaris (Spreng.) Knoblauch, Bot. Centralbl. 60: 356. 1894. Small annual herbs of moist, usually sandy places, Venezuela to Brazil, with the primary center of distribution in the Planalto of Brazil. A genus of some 10-12 rather poorly defined species, three of which are recorded from Guayana. It will be noted in Fig 73, 75 that there is considerable disparity in pollen form and ornamentation between Curtia tenuifolia (Maguire et al 41473) and Curtia quadrifolia (Wurdack & Adderley 43626). Pollens and/or generic assignment should be carefully looked into among the twelve or more putative names attributed to the genus.
