Discussion:Among the known Philippine species of Pohlia, P. longicollis can be easily confused with P. elongata Hedw. As discussed by Ochi (1959), Crum and Anderson (1981) and Shaw (1982), P. longicollis diflers from P. elongata in having a metallic sheen or luster, among other characters. The leaves ofthe Mt. Amuyaw plants do exhibit a strong greenish sheen. Ochi (1959) further observed that the capsules of P. longicollis are larger Among the known Philippine species of Pohlia, P. longicollis can be easily confused with P. elongata Hedw. Ochi (1959) further observed that the capsules of P. longicollis are larger than those of P. elongata. Comparison of Philippine specimens ofthe two species corroborates this observation. In addition, the much contracted long neck of the capsule of P. longicollis is less than the length of the um. Peristomial cilia are not well developed in Philippine specimens. Although the paroicous sexuality m ay ally it to Pohlia nutans (Hedw.) Lindb., the latter has a capsule with a short neck.

Its total range was described as circumboreal (Ochi, 1959; Shaw, 1982) with southward extensions into the high mountains of southem Japan, India, Taiwan and East Africa. The Philippine record is a new addition.
