Type: CHILE. Fretum Magellanicum, Punta Arenas, Lechler s. no. et nom. No type specimens seen.
Like O. elegantulum this taxon is based on a Lechler collection from Punta Arenas and the two species could very well be conspecific. This view is supported by the fact that Angstrom (1876) considered O. leiothecium to be identical to his species O. andersonii, which in the present study is regarded as a synonym of O. elegantulum. However, since other closely related taxa, O. bicolor and O. ludificans, occur in the same area, no decision can be made without studying the type specimen.
