Description
Species Description - Hypnodendron reinwardtii is one of five species and the type of section Phoenicobryum. It occurs in Malaysia, the only region on mainland Asia where it is found, and across Malesia. The population examined here came from Malaysia (Table I, Appendix I). The chromosome number is n = 5 based on meiotic studies (Figs. 1, 2). The bivalents aligned in Fig. 3 consist of two large, two medium and one smaller bivalent. The bivalents and sporocytes in this species are large and comparable in size to the four chromosome species in the secrion Comosa but much larger than those in the secrion Tristichophyllum with the same chromosome number.
