Anomodon viticulosus is coarse and robust, growing in deep mats on the face of calcareous cliffs. T h e leaves have narrowly long-tapered, ligulate-lanceolate points. A portion of the type of the var. mexicanus shows leaves narrower and more secund than usual but not exceeding the allowable variation of the var. viticulosus.
