    Genus Description - Both fertile and sterile stems erect, deep-reddish (wholly or in part), with rhizoids only at base of stems. erect-spreading to spreading, oblong-elliptic from a gradually tapered and narrowly decurrent base, acute, ± cuspidate; margins doubly serrate, the border 2- or more-layered; costa percurrent or vanishing below the apex, rarely toothed at back near the apex; upper cells isodiametric, with or without distinct corner thickenings, smaller toward the border. Capsules horizontal to pendulous, oblong- to ovoid-cylindric; operculum rostrate to mammillate.
