Description:Genus Description - Canopy trees, unbuttressed. Bark nearly smooth. Leaves eucamptrodromous, with finely percurrent tertiary veins. Inflorescences terminal or subterminal, racemes or once-branched paniculate arrangement of racemes. Buds oblong. Flowers diurnal, actinomorphic; calyx rimlike, sometimes with 5(-6) scarcely developed lobes; petals 5, oblong, with inwardly pointing hooks at apex; androecium oblong, without hood, the stamens inserted at apex and over inside of staminal ring, the anthers small, with lateral dehiscent; ovary 4(-5)-locular, the ovules inserted along length of septum. Fruits cylindric. Seeds with basal aril; embryo without cotyledons.
