Description:Distribution and Ecology - General Distribution. Tropical and subtropical America and Africa; naturalized elsewhere in warm regions.Distribution in Puerto Rico. Very widely distributed throughout the island, but collected relatively infrequently; recorded from Aguas Buenas, Coamo, Gurabo, Loiza, Maricao, Mayagñez, Rio Grande, San Juan, Vega Alta, and Yabucoa; Vieques. Virgin Islands. St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John, and Tortola.Habitat. Rocky banks, semi-cultivated ground, openings in secondary forest, borders of swamps, and shaded roadsides at low to middle elevations (sea-level-630 m), common, often a weed.
