Discussion
Type. Mexico. México: Nr. Flor de María, Pringle 3459 (YU; isotypes MO, NY!—4 sheets). The Isoetes mexicana complex is a difficult group distinguished by the smooth to inconspicuously pustulate megaspores (350-660 µm diam.) with smaller, more crowded pustules near equatorial ridge, 2-lobed corms, and unspotted to lightly spotted megasporangia. Hickey (specimens at NY) recognizes both species; a Chiapas specimen, Breedlove 15070 (=I. pringlei in A. R. Smith, 1981) is annotated as 7. montezumae.
