Greater and Lesser Antilles,Trinidad, and continental tropical Americafrom El Salvador to Peru and northwestemArgentina; especially common in Colombia andVenezuela.Distribution in Puerto Rico. Known from ratherfew scattered localities in the north, center,and westem parts of the island; recorded fromArecibo, Cidra, Corozal, Loiza, Maricao, and Mayagñez.Habitat. Along rocky river beds and shadedborders of swamps at low to middle elevations(sea-level-350 m), rare or uncommon.
