Description:Species Description - General Distribution. Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles, Tobago, Trinidad, continental tropical America from Mexico to Bolivia, tropical Africa, and Malesia. Distribution in Puerto Rico. Known from very few collections; recorded from Corozal, Maricao, and San German. Virgin Islands. St. Croix: A single specimen from a cultivated plant originally collected in the wild. Habitat. Moist shaded banks and ledges in forest areas, usually at middle elevations (430-640 m), very rare. The St. Croix plant must have been found at a locality much nearer to sea-level.
