Discussion:Type. Guatemala. San Marcos: Cerro Tumbador, Williams et al. 23084 (F; isotype US!). Polypodium alsophiloides Liebmann, Mexic. bregn. 208 (seors. 56). 1849. Syntypes: Mexico. Oaxaca: “Trapiche de la Concepción,” Liebmann [Pl. Mex. 2406, Fl. Mex. 198 and 199] (C!). Lectotype (chosen by A. R. Smith, 1981: 80). Fl. Mex. 199. Aspidium bourgaei Fournier, Mexic. pl. 1: 98. 1872. Type. Mexico. [Veracruz:] “In Valle Cordobensi,” Bourgeau 1839 (P; isotype C!, photo NY!; isotype US!). In Oaxaca this well-marked variety generally occurs at the higher elevations (1850-2450 m) in Ixtlán (4377. 5352) and Teotitlán (4164) (although at only 1000 m in Choapan, Liebmann), whereas C. equestris var. equestris occurs at 1250-1850 m in Juquila and Pochutla.
