Description:Distribution and Ecology - Range as given in key. Sierra Nevada foothills to middle elevations, openings along rivers, canyon slopes, shales, outcrops along trails, 2000-4000 ft. May-June.

Discussion:Hosackia argophylla var fremontii Gray (1863); L. fremontii (Gray) Hell. (1900); Syrmatium fremontii (Gray) Hell. (1913); L. argophyllus var fremontii (Gray) Ottley (1923); H. fremontii (Gray) Abrams (1944). H. tomentosa classic auct. The Sierra form of Lotus argophyllus has large, subsessile umbels congested towards branch tips, long calyx lobes and more acute leaflets than var argophyllus with which it merges to the south.
