Discussion:A probably extinct Easter Island (Skottsberg, 1922) species of the Edwardsia group. Reported in herb (CAS) but specimen is not this species. Not entered in key. Sophora violacea Thw. Pubescent shrub; leaflets 17-23, ovate-oblong, ca. 2 r, glabrous; flowers racemed, violet, ca. 2 cm; pedicels subequal to calyx; distally articulate; calyx scarcely lobed; legume stipitate, moniliform, 5-7 cm, pilose, strongly beaked, isthmi broad, flat, seeds red. Ceylon. Fairchild Tropical Garden (1970) but not in 1975 listing. Avery (pers. comm., 1976) says that plant alleged to be this species died. No U.S. material seen and not included in the key.
