Discussion:Dioecious flowers are characteristic of this genus of the tribe Gardenieae, as they are also in Alibertia, Duroia, Stachyarrhena, and Kotchubaea. A number of species originally described in Amaioua have later been found to be congeneric with Duroia and Alibertia, to which genera they are now relegated. Relatively few species of those originally described remain within the genus Amaioua. The following treatment refers to those species found in Venezuela and adjacent areas, especially.
