Discussion
Cassia leptocarpa var. leptocarpa and C. hirsuta seem to differ in no fundamental way, the evident distinguishing features being density of pubescence, breadth of the pod and average number of leaflets. That some South American material appears intermediate is evidenced by the existence of C. leptocarpa var. hirsuta Benth. The species are closely allied, their precise relationship remaining to be defined.
