Discussion:Caesalpinia sepiaria Roxb. (1832) Biancaea sepiaria (Roxb.) Todaro (1876) CN n = 12 (Bir and Kumari, 1973; as C. sepiaria). This variety, reported of disturbed areas in the tropics is also grown for protective hedging, and one specimen from Coral Gables is so designated. The chromosome count of Bir and Kumari (1973) is referred to this variety on basis of origin of material. The validity of the varieties is supported by their seemingly different genomes.
