Discussion:C. populifolius ß essequiboensis Müll. Arg. in DC. Prodr. 15(2) : 654. 1866. This species, conspicuous by the deeply incised bracts and fimbriate-glandular calyx lobes, is related to the N Venezuelan and West Indian C. populifolius.
