Discussion
Apparently bicentric in United States: w Texas to adjacent e New Mexico; sw New Mexico and adjacent Arizona. Rocky hillsides, canyons, grassland, oak-juniper, often igneous-derived soils. Locally abundant and conspicuous. ?-7000 ft. July-Aug. (Sept.). N. Mexico. Possibly this and the following represent closely related species. I have seen no intermediate fruit forms, and the ranges (U.S.) barely overlap.
