This species contains both monoecious and dioecious plants. The type of Cryptangium griseum is a pistillate plant, while the type of Lagenocarpus sericeus is a staminate one. C. B. Clarke, in his original description of L. vestitus, cited Glaziou 20059, which is the holotype of Cryptangium griseum. The other syntype cited by Clarke, Riedel from Tymbo-peba, was determined from a photo as L. griseus. Therefore L. vestitus is synonymous with L. griseus.
