Monographs Details: Cyanothrix willei N.L.Gardner
Authority: Gardner, Nathaniel L. 1927. New Myxophyceae from Porto Rico. Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 7: 1-144. pl. 1-23.
Description:Species Description - Filaments about 200 µ long, 9-11 n diam.; cells 6-6.5 µ diam., 3.5-4.5 µ long, homogeneous or very finely granular, pale aeruginous; tegument almost transparent, about 2 µ thick, smooth

Distribution and Ecology - Growing among other algae in Laguna Tortuguero, no. 830 e, type, and no. 844 e.

Discussion:Cyanothrix Willei resembles C. primaria very closely but is only about one-half as large as that species. No intermediate sizes were observed and although it is possible for a species to vary as much as this from generation to generation, it seems best to keep these two separate and await the accumulation of data on this point, when an accurate decision as to their disposition may be arrived at.
