Discussion:A scabridulous lower surface of the lamina is common in material collected near Manaus, less common in material from Para. The material from Pará also tends to have smaller leaves than that from the Manaus region. The small-leaved form, in which the pistillate inflorescences often have few flowers, can be easily confused with Naucleopsis ternstroemiiflora, but can be distinguished from the latter by the dense indumentum of the involucral bracts and the petiole, mostly longer than 1 cm.
