  • Family

    Moraceae

  • Scientific Name

    Perebea guianensis Aubl. subsp. guianensis

  • Discussion

The collection Berg et al P. 18131 is hirsute on the main veins of the lamina beneath and on the leafy twigs, more or less similar to the Bolivian collections Buchtien 1567 (see Fl. Neotrop. Monogr. 7:46) and Gentry 70372, and to the Peruvian collection D. N. Smith 3976; the indumentum recalls that of subsp. hirsuta. In northern Amazonian Peru (Amazonas and Loreto) a form with small leaves (mostly ca. 10-25 long) and relatively short stipules (often 2-2.5 cm long), represented by the collections Huashikat 1188 and Pipoly et al 13337, is common. In the adjacent part of Ecuador (Morona-Santiago and Zamora-Chinchipe) some collections with unclear identity have been made. They match subsp. guianensis in the size and shape of the lamina and length of the stipules, but in the indumentum they show similarities to subsp. hirsuta, although the yellow hairs are shorter than normal for the latter subspecies. These collections are as follows: ECUADOR. Morona-Santiago: Cantón Gualaquiza, Cuangos, 20 km E of Gualaquiza, 19 Jul 1993 ([female] fl-fr), Gentry 80210(QCNE). ZAMORA-CHINCHIPE: Cantón Nangaritza, Pachicutza, 18 Oct 1991 ([male]), Palacios et al 8303 (MO, QCNE).
