  Several changes had to be made: the inclusion of Pseudolmedia guaranitica in P. laevigata; the adoption of another name for the species recognized as P. oxyphyllaria, as Trophis glabrata proved to be conspecific; the reduction of P murure to a synonym of P. macrophylla; and the recognition of two new species, P gentryi and P. manabiensis (Berg, 1998a).

  In the monograph, Pseudolmedia was lectotypified by P. ferruginea (Poeppig & Endlicher) Trécul= P. laevis (Ruiz & Pavón) Macbride. However, the genus had already been lectotypified with P. havanensis Trécul=P. spuria (Swartz) Grisebach by Britton and Wilson (1924). As Pseudolmedia sect. Acomandra Engler includes P. spuria, another name has to be established for the other section of the genus.
