Monographs Details: Brosimum utile (Humb., Bonpl. & Kunth) Pittier
Authority: Berg, Cornelius C. 2001. Moreae, Artocarpeae, and (Moraceae): With introductions to the family and and with additions and corrections to Flora Neotropica Monograph 7. Fl. Neotrop. Monogr. 83: 1-346. (Published by NYBG Press)
Discussion:An increase in the Amazonian collections made it clear that Brosimum longifolium has to be reinstated as a species. Several characters, such as the repand margin of the lamina, the persistent epidermis on the petiole and the initially recurved inflorescences, usually occurring in pairs, justify the reinstatement. The other subspecies which have been recognized can be maintained. A number of sterile collections from the upper Amazon Basin (in particular from Peru) could not be included in one of the two Amazonian subspecies, and in some cases it is even uncertain whether they belong to the species.
