Discussion
Piptocarpha axillaris subsp. graciellae is similar in floral characters and leaf flavonoid profiles to the populations of P. axillaris subsp. axillaris at Itatiaia National Park but is distinguished by its smaller habit and distinctly smaller leaves.

Distribution
Piptocarpha axillaris subsp. graciellae is found in the Serra dos Orgãos in Rio de Janeiro State. It is a small tree known only from the montane rainforests. Elevation is 1700-2000 m. Flowering and fruiting occur from Jul to Sep.
