    Latin Diagnosis - Frútices caulibus pilis stellaris adpressis; laminis foliorum ovato-cordatis, in pagina abaxiali pilis stellaris adpressis; bracteis involucellorum ca. 10 lanceolatis vel loratis calycem excedentibus distaliter rubellis; calyce cylindrico brevi lobato; corollis 3-4 cm longis rubris; androeciis exsertis purpuratis; fructibus ignotis.

    Species Description - Shrubs 1.5-2 m tall, the stems densely stellate-pubescent, the hairs appressed, ca. 1.5 mm diam., 8 10-armed, the arms arcuate and interlaced. Leaf blades ovate, mostly 5-10 x 4-9 cm, basally cordate, serrate, acuminate, palmately 9-nerved, discolorous, stellate-pubescent, the upper surface with hairs 0.5 mm diam., the lower surface with hairs (as on stems) 1-1.5 mm diam., densely mingled with finer pubescence; petioles exserted, 3.5-4.5 cm long, purple, the filaments ca. 5 mm long, ascending, purple; styles slender, emerging from the column, pubescent or glabrous. Fruits unknown. 2.5-5 cm long, with dense pubescence like stem; stipules 8 mm long, subulate, erect, more sparsely pubescent than adjacent stem or petiole. Flowers solitary in the leaf axils, the pedicels 1.5-5 cm long, thickened upward (1.5 mm basally to 2.5 mm distally), with pubescence like stem; involucellar bracts ca. 10, liguliform to lanceolate, acute, 2.5-3 x 2-4(-5) mm (narrowed toward base), stellate-pubescent and hispid-ciliate (the cilia 2-3 mm long), apparently somewhat reddish distally; calyx 15-23 mm long, tubular, densely yellowish-pubescent, shallowly lobed, the lobes 5-7 mm long, triangular; corolla 3-4 cm long, red, the petals erect or flaring distally; staminal column

    The specific epithet signifies “from the state of Pará.”

    Known only from the state of Pará, Brazil, along the Rio Tocantins. The type locality is at 3°45'S, 49°42'W.
