Description:Variety Description - Stems either humifuse or ascending 4-7 dm, remotely aculeolate; leaf-formula ii—iii/5—9; pods subsessile, 30-43 x 4-4.5 mm, 6-10-seeded, the almost straight replum either smooth or densely retro-aculeolate, the articles ±4 mm long.
Distribution and Ecology - In stony campo and cerrado, 800-1000 m, known only from Sa. da Anta in w.-centr. Minas Gerais and Sa. do Rio Preto in e.-centr. Goiás.— Fl. XI-II. Map 21.
Irwin found in one population plants with pods smooth along the replum and others with replum densely aculeolate. The latter suggests the pod of M. selloi, but is much narrower. Similarly armed pods are not otherwise known in M. gracilis.
