    Brazil. Maranhão. Lorêto Mun. "Ilha de Balsas" region, between the Rios Balsas and Parnaiba. Ca. 6 km N of main house of Fazenda "Morros" about 30 km. south of Lorêto. "Baixão do Cipó".

  • Habitat

    In shaded brook gully, forming colony a few meters square, found only here. Gully cuts through a tall "caatinga" forest (trees 20-25 m. tall, with trunks 1-8 dm. d.b.h.).

    herb 1 1/2 m. tall, sepals red, petal vermillion, staminodes orange. Seeds ripe in dried capsules. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
