  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to Geonames.org for locality information for Quebrada Iricahua, synonymous with Quebrada Caño Iricahua (http://www.geonames.org/maps/google_-4.815_-73.791.html, accessed: 7/2/2015). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of Quebrada Caño Iricahua in Requena Province, Loreto, Peru. Used the reference material and Google Maps – Earth View locate the Quebrada Caño Iricahua. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line from the headwaters of the river (estimated to be the location where multiple streams seem to form Quebrada Caño Iricahua) to the approximate geographic center of the mouth of the river (confluence of Quebrada Caño Iricahua and Rio UUU, 5.7 km), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along the shore of Quebrada Iricahua nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river. Input coordinates, coordinate source (locality description), datum (WGS84), coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), extent of named place (2850 m), and measurement error (10 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator find uncertainty radius.
