Area used for ' raising of cattle and pigs. (79° 55' W 4° 8' S). Alt. 1300 m. Jan 20, 2001 Arborescent, 8 m tall. Trunk proper 3 m tall (total lenght = 5 m), 30 cm dbh, armed with spines. Stems erect or ascending, about 40 distal ones, to 2.5 m long, 10-14 cm wide at middle of plant, 7-9 cm wide at apex of plant. Observed pollinated by a hummingbird at 9 am. Vernacular names: tuna turco and cardo. Liquid material available at AAU.
