Tall tropical evergreen forest on flat. With large trees now being removed. With Lecythidaceae, Orbignya phalerata. Very common.

Common giant palm, not fertile until ca. 15 or more m. tall; trunk 30 cm. in diam., clean except for some old leaf bases. Leaves huge Ithis from a juvenile), the blade, becoming more spaced at base, otherwise ± uniform, with regular transverse folds. Fert.
