Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle
NEW YORK, SUFFOLK CO.: Huntington Station, in the Paumonek
Wetland, west of Walt Whitman High School, at the southeast
comer of the woods, 2 m from Paumonek Drive. Small tree to
about 3.66 m. Samaras bright red on the side hit by sunlight,
yellow-green on shaded side. At the edge of an Oak-Hickory
Mesic Woodland, with Vitis, Toxicodendron radicans, Celastrus
orbiculatus, and Juglans nigra.
