Small, young street tree, 5 m. tall, 25 cm. in diameter; bark light gray and smooth until ca. 20 cm. in diameter; year-ol'd twigs red-brown, the older ones gray, with only a faint odor when scraped. Bracts around flowers reddish brown; filaments light yellow; anthers red before opening, black after releasing pollen.
