Rocky Hill, hiking trail along the old Delaware-Raritan canal
paralleling the Millstone River, 0.5-1 mile S of Hwy. 518
bridge. Floodplain forest and grassy and brushy areas on
gentle slope E of the canal. Native species such as Fraxinus
pensylvanica, Rhus radicans, Mikania scandens,
Parthenocissus inserta, along with many introduced species
such as Elaeagnus umbellata, Celastrus orbiculatus,
Lonicera maackiii.
Planted? Only seen on open slope, a number of specimens
seen but only in this habitat. Shrub 2 m. tall. Fruit bright red.
