  • Description

    Pileus 2.5-6 cm broad, hemispheric to convex to plano-convex, dry, medium to coarsely erect squamulose at first, sometimes flattened or truncated, becoming repent, grayish red to ruddy red to pinkish red (9,10B-C6,5) soon becoming dull ochraceous tan, sometimes retaining the reddish pigment between the scales and/or at the base of the scales, sometimes with pale yellow showing between the scales, with sterile appendiculate remnants at margin; the scales continuous onto outer surface of veil, with a white band at edge. Flesh yellow, quickly cyanescent, with yellow and cyanescence present into upper 1/4-1/3 or rarely 2/3 of stipe, white below to base with a slower orangish brown oxidation, rarely with some immediate cyanescence in base, often basal cyanescence disappearing with orange brown prevailing. Tubes adnexed to deeply adnexed, bright yellow at first, becoming dull sordid yellow to greenish yellow, with pores bright yellow at first, becoming dull reddish brown with age, quickly cyanescent throughout development. Stipe 4-9 cm long, 4-12 mm broad, strict or curved, equal, sometimes slightly enlarged at base, dry, red at apex, or rarely with some bright yellow, white to tan to dull ivory (4B3) with age, tomentose to appressed subtomentose above, appressed fibrillose to fibrillose striate below, white at base. Spore print dark olive brown.
