  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the midpoint of Rio Casiquiare between the region of Solano and Rio Guainia (Rio Negro is called Rio Guainia near the headwaters of the river in Colombia) in Mun. Río Negro, Amazonas, Venezuela. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Casiquiare between the confluence of Rio Casiquiare and Rio Guainia (the mouth of Rio Casiquiare) and the region of Solano. Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line between the mouth of Rio Casiquiare and where the river meets Solano then halved this distance to approximate the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Casiquiare nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Canadensys Lat/long Crosshairs to find the coordinates, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (11508.8 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
