Description
Pileus brown, convex, matted tomentose, becoming finely squamulose scaly at the margin. Flesh white, blue then red then black when exposed. Tubes dark yellowish green, cyanescent, red then black. Stipe pale yellowish white at apex, pinkish tan to brown downward, matted subtomentose to matted tomentose, bruising brown, with interior white, bluish then red then black. Spores umber brown (5F8) in deposit when fresh. Cyanogranules (±) rare in p-pellis; hyphae repent, smooth or sometimes encrusted and with brown walls and uniform brown contents, mostly repent and cylindrical although some elements of subpellis with constricted septa and short length, ±palisadal. St-pellis variable – sometimes with cyanogranule (+) clavate to cylindrical, clusters of caulocystidia, other times hyaline or absent depending on where section is made (if absent then hyphae with brown contents and repent), sometimes with pale blue green subpellis.
