  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of the mouth of the Vaupés River (synonymous with Rio Uaupés) in Amazonas, BR. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Vaupés River, a tributary of Rio Negro. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mouth of the Vaupés River (where it branches from the Rio Negro), on the adjacent land. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find linear extent of the mouth by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the mouth. Input coordinates, linear extent (1489.29 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Mouth or headwaters of a river, confluence of waterways, trailhead).
