Description
Not planted, appearing spontaneously on the Swale, an artificial marshy area with Typha, Scirpus, Phragmites australis and other marsh plants. These Lythrum are pulled out every year in an attempt to prevent them from taking over the marsh. Herbs, erect, to 2 m. tall, usually several stems from a rootstock; flowers showy pink-purple, becoming darker on drying. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
