Description:
Hypogeous. Ascomata 6-30 mm in diam, globose to subglobose to subcerebriform, with dry, furfuraceous surface, mahogany brown (8E7) at first, darker brown with age, without apparent attachment point. Interior irregularly loculose, moist and appearing cartilaginous, brownish orange (7C5) in the sterile tissues, dry and white in the locules when young, with age: sterile tissues chocolate brown, locules white, subhymenium a muted reddish color. Odor a pleasant fungal type with a mild taste.
Habitat:
Montane cloud forest. Quercus seemannii in mixed forest. In soil.
