Disturbed forest near taro patch and resident area.
Taro to 50cm tall in taro patch.
Uses:
Food - Edible taro; leaves are used for soup. Boil
the taro leaves for a long time with coconut milk
(Cocos nucífera, [Lius]) and other ingredients.
(CK)
Medicinal - When head is hit by an object, cut
the stem of the kukau and scrape the stem- crush
the end and apply to the head. Use the juice to rub
on the bump. This will stop the pain, and numb
the area. Similar to the way aloe (Aloe vera) is
used. Could work on any part of the body. Numbs
the pain for about an hour. It is usually applied
only once, and is used for immediate relief. (CK)
Comments: Going up from Kitalong residence up
to the forest near the taro patch. Along stream that
ends at the Airai annex.
