Campo cerrado (a type of scrubby woodland originally) on upland, or very rarely forest. Open marsh or dense secondary forest ("mata") along the streams. This habitat: open cutover cerrado. Principally bunch grass and scattered low shrubs. Soil dark reddish-brown sandy clay.
