Note: "Noting that Britton had referred to the "nut" of "C. Wright 1942" on several sheets of S. paludosus at NY, I designated this specimen as the TYPE od S. campestris in 1973 without realizing there was a sheet in the type collection at NY which Britton had designated as the TYPE. Because Britton apparently used this specimen as a point of reference while preparing his description of Scirpus campestris, it can be considered as TYPE MATERIAL but not as the TYPE." A. E.
