. ’ J C187T) 173, t. ^P=ARDISIA DRUPACEA (Blanco) comb,
nov* (Ardisia boissieri A. DC.).
Blanco's species was reduced by Fernandez-Villar to Ardisia
obovata ISiximo—Ardisia kumilis Valh var. obovata (Blume) Mez,
a species that Jias been credited to the Philippines and one to
which Ardisia* boissieri is certainly very closely Allied. Ardisia
drupácea (A. boissieri) is an inland form and is consistently
a tree, not a shrub. It should be noted that King & Gamble
differ from Mez in interpreting Ardisia kumilis Vahl and retain
the name Ardisia littoralis Andr. (1811) for the Malay Penin-
sula form (including A. obovata Blume), % with the comment
that Ardisia littoralis Andr. “seems to be a coast shrub only.”
The species, whatever specific name be adopted for it, is widely
* distributed in the Philippines at low and medium altitudes.
Illustrative specimen from Angat, Rizal Province, Luzon,
December, 1914 (Merrill: Species Blancoanae No. 60).
