Panicles slightly nodding; pale yellow-brown:
very common in moist meadows from 4000 ft. and
in open Abies-Pinus-Betula-Populus forests in
subalpine zone. These from ca. 5400 ft.
KHAMAR-DABAN RANGE: Montane to alpine zone
along path in upper reaches of Slyudyanka
River Valley, 10-14 km SSW of SLYUDYANKA
(SW end of LAKE BAIKAL).

a)	Rocky open Populus suaveolens—Abies
siblrica—Picea obovata—Pinus sylvestris
montane mixed forests along Slyudyanka R.,
with Aconitum czekanovskyi, Delphinium
elatum, etc. Alt. 1000-1400m
b)	Lush moist to wet herbaceous montane—
subalpine meadows and streamsides, with
Delphinium elatum, Aconitum septentrionale
(= excelsum), Salix krilovii, Epilobium
angustifolium, Cirsium heterophyllum.
Alt. 1000-1330m
c)	Exposed dry rocky slopes in valley with
.Rhododendron chrysanthum, Vaceinium myrtillus,
Solidago dahurica (virga-aurea), Sibbaldia
procumbens, Dryopteris carthusiana, Carex
globularis. Alt. 1300m
d)	Steep, woodeçl marble cliffs and slopes
ca. 150m above valley, with Salix vestita,
Mertensia sibirica, Aconitum sukaczevii
(topotype?), Asplénium viride, Woodsia.
(End of road near miners camp). Alt. 1200 m
Mesic subalpine meadows with Aquilegia
glaridulosa, Rhaponticum carthamoides, '
Pedicularis incarnata, Carex mimula,
C^. spp., C^. perfusca, Crepis lyrata,
Calalmagrostis purpurea. Alt. 1330-1500m
Rocky dry open subalpine forest of
Pinus sibirica—Abies sibirica—Betula
pendula-platyphylla, with£ Rhododendron
chrysanthum, Vaccinium myrtillus, Alnus
fruticosa, Salix krilovii, Lycopodium
alpinum, Nardus stricta, Carex in under-
story. Alt. 1500-1700m
g) Alpine shrub community of Rhododendron
chrysanthum, Phyllodoce coerulea, Pinus
pumila, Salix krilovii, Gentiana algida,
