from highway at Río Seco on dirt road toward La Florida.
Chaco forest on slightly rolling area, sandy soil. With
Astronium, Anadenanthera macrocarpa, Phyllostylon
rhamnoides, Bromelia serra, Capparis speciosa, C. retusa,
Ximenia americana, Acanthosyris falcata, Achatocarpus
praecox.
18°38.70’S, 63°17.40’ W. alt. 550 m.
Shrub, to 2.2 m. tall, with a single erect trunk 10 cm. in
diameter, this then soon branched. Only a few of the lower
lateral branches eventually becoming too heavy and sagging
to the ground where rooting. Flowers bright orange, odorless
(3:00 P.M., partly sunny). Fruit green, turning red. Normal
fertile herbarium specimens will be made from the ultimate
joints which are small and approach in size and shape those
of O. retrorsa, also found here (see no. 51406), but the
plants are entirely differeixm growth form and flower color;
the older joints of no. 51*37 are up to 20 * 10 cm.
