Vitis rupestris Scheele
Montgomery Co.: Potomac River flows into the Chesapeake Bay,
Great Falls National Park administered by the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal National Historic Park, no legal sections marked on Falls
Church Quad., N39.95 W77.12, 2 mi south of the town of Potomac
on Hwy 189. Take park road into Visitor Center, walk south along
C&O Canal towpath, head to river off towpath on trail that goes
south between Lock 17 and Mary’s Wall. Elev. 18.3 m (60 ft) stream
flow 100°, on Bear Island just north of Rocky Islands, about 44
ramets spread over 35 m and 18 more in another 30 m, genets on
south side of river, ramets very small to sprawling, lvs square not
renal, diaphragms 1 mm, only 1 yr canes coming from rootstock,
severe flood history. Substrate cobbles and gravel with large
boulders. Assoc, spp.: Fraxinus, Ulmus, Platanus, Ilex, Polygonum,
Artemisia, Bidens Diospyros, Salix carolinensis Vitis vulpina, and
Vitis riparia.
